AICO Radiolink Alarms feature in new ECO Show Home

2nd October 2012

Aico’s best selling mains powered RadioLINK Smoke and Carbon Monoxide (CO) alarms have been installed in to St. Vincent’s Cosy Home - an Eco-home project in Farnworth, Bolton.

Cosy Home is a turn of the century terraced house that has been retrofitted with readily available ‘green’ technology by St. Vincent’s Housing, in a bid to demonstrate how households can reduce their fuel bills.

A wide range of environmentally friendly technologies for the home have been fitted throughout the property, including Aico’s RadioLINK system.  RadioLINK interconnects alarms in the property using Radio Frequency (RF) signals rather than cabling.  Less cabling makes for a more environmentally friendly alarm system and allows for greater system flexibility.

RadioLINK is used in the Cosy Home to interconnect Aico mains powered Multi Sensor alarms in the lounge, landing and bedrooms, an alarm for the Hard of Hearing in the main bedroom and Heat and CO alarms in the kitchen.  If one alarm on the system is triggered, RF signals cause every other alarm on that system to sound, providing the earliest warning to the occupants.  The system also features Aico’s new RadioLINK Control Switch, which allows occupants to easily Test, Silence and Locate a triggered alarm from one convenient point.

The Aico Multi Sensor alarm contains both Optical and Heat sensing technologies, enabling it to monitor both smoke and heat – two very different by-products of a fire.  This makes the alarm more responsive to all fire types when compared with traditional single sensor type units, as well as reducing false alarms.

Aico’s alarm system for the Hard of Hearing is a purpose-designed system consisting of a control box with integral strobe light and a separate plug-in vibration pad.  It uses RadioLINK to interconnect wirelessly to up to 12 alarms in the property.

The CO alarm fitted into the Cosy Home has further environmental benefits in that it comes with a cost-saving replaceable CO sensor to extend the life of the alarm unit.  The sensor is pre-calibrated and tested in CO gas to ensure accuracy.

Information boards on the alarms and RadioLINK system have been supplied by Aico for the Cosy Home, which is being used as a learning Centre for the community and other social housing providers for a twelve month period.

A wholly owned subsidiary of Ei Electronics, Aico is the first name in residential fire protection in the UK.  All alarms are designed and built in Europe specifically to meet the UK standards and regulations.  For more information, please go to www.aico.co.uk.
