Cablofil contributes to 270 million pound community programme

16th April 2012

Cablofil is helping to provide world-class facilities for young people and the wider community in the Aston area of Birmingham as part of the £270 million MyPlace scheme.

The Government-funded scheme has seen the construction of 70 MyPlace youth and community centres around the country, which aim to provide facilities and opportunities for underprivileged communities.  MITIE’s team in Tamworth has carried out the electrical installation at MyPlace Aston for Birmingham City Council, using Cablofil steel wire tray as the cable management system for all the lighting, small power, data and extra low voltage cabling for the alarm and access systems.

The new build facility includes a youth centre, a sports hall, four badminton courts, social areas, a media suite and a recording studio. The striking building with Perspex cladding has a complex architectural lighting system and has been designed to light up at night. MITIE is using a combination of trunking for the twin and earth cables and Cablofil steel wire tray in the ceiling void for the small power, data and extra low voltage cabling.

Phil Hood, Project Engineer for MITIE’s Built Environment business said: “The Cablofil system is quick and easy to install on site while providing the quality that ensures we can be confident of delivering a durable installation.  The MyPlace programme has seen a number of valuable community facilities spring up around the country and MyPlace Aston will be one of the last as the funding initiative ends.  However, by specifying high quality materials for the electrical installations we have helped deliver a centre that will nurture talent and provide entertainment for many years to come.”
