Hager UK shines a light on Amendment 3 with Training Programme

21st May 2015

Hager UK, the leading supplier of electrical services and solutions, is helping the nation’s electrical installers to fully understand recent updates to the wiring regulations, specifically Amendment 3, by providing a comprehensive training programme completely free of charge. The impartial, hour-long session puts the focus firmly on the new legislation and offers a wealth of useful, practically applicable information to ensure electrical contractors comply with the new legislation.

Already almost 3,000 delegates have attended more than 130 sessions across the country, with Hager UK technical experts travelling to installer hotspots to meet demand. Response to the training has been overwhelmingly positive, with delegates describing the process as “one of the best training sessions we have held for a long time” and “brilliant”.

Paul Collins, Project and Technical Support Manager at Hager UK, comments: "We have been providing Amendment 3 training for several months now and it has been great to get so much positive feedback from attendees, with many saying it as is the best they have experienced.

"At Hager, we knew from the outset that it was important to put the focus on the amendment and its implications for installers. We also felt that it was important to make this training as accessible as possible - hence the hour-long format and the fact that it is free of charge.

“We look forward to continuing to deliver the training messages until many of the changes come into force on July 1st, to ensure people are as prepared as they can be, without having to invest in costly training programmes."

A significant change in Amendment 3 requires the containment of domestic installations within non-combustible, regulation-compliant enclosures. The amendment has been made following investigations by the London Fire Brigade, which revealed that many fires arose from faulty electrical connections that overheated and then set light to their plastic enclosures. The aim of Amendment 3 is, therefore, to ensure that when such overheating occurs in domestic settings, the fire is contained as far as possible within the enclosure, and the risk of a house fire is dramatically reduced. Other elements of the new amendment refer to wiring systems in escape routes, and the use of circuit breakers as switching devices.

Hager UK is well placed to offer this training, having been closely involved in the new changes and provided expert industry liaison with interested parties, including London Fire Brigade and the Government, as the new amendment was developed and refined.
