JCC Lighting adds an exciting new LED fire rated downlight to its Fireguard range

28th July 2011

JCC Lighting has launched Fireguard LED7, a fire-rated downlight for both residential and commercial applications that uses the latest energy efficient LEDs as a light source.  The high light output and performance of the 7W LEDs are equivalent to a 50W halogen lamp, offering energy savings of over 80% against halogens.

JCC has combined eight years’ experience in fire-rated lighting with state-of-the-art LED technology to deliver an energy efficient, high quality, fully-tested LED downlight. The LED output exceeds the 400 lumens and 45 lumens/circuit watt efficacy target required by Part L of the Building Regulations in England and Wales. The downlight contains six LED chips and its unique lens design gives a smooth, even spread of light with a 38 degree beam angle in line with halogen equivalents.

JCC’s Fireguard range offers peace of mind over fire safety issues. Most downlights have an open back and offer no seal or protection to the ceiling in the event of a fire. This means that the downlight’s cut out hole has broken the fire-rating of the ceiling and heat and flames would be able to spread into upper floors. The JCC Fireguard range utilises a fire-resistant, all-metal enclosed can which ensures that flammable dust and debris doesn’t build up through the life of the fitting. This follows the guidelines issued by the Electrical Safety Council in its recent Downlighters and Fire Safety report.

All JCC fire-rated downlights include the added protection of a seal to the ceiling cut out and additional intumescent material to the back of the product which swells to seal any ventilation gaps in the event of a fire.  JCC’s patented thermoplastic intumescent plug has a petal design that provides improved ventilation to maintain the life of the light source and swells up to 80 times under extreme temperature conditions to seal the back of the fitting should a fire break out.

Fireguard LED7 has been designed to be easily retrofitted into existing downlight installations. An integral LED driver allows like-for-like replacement of both low voltage or mains voltage halogen units and the dimmable version can be used with a wide variety of standard dimmers. A wide bezel allows for damage to the cut-out hole on removal of the old fitting. The bezel is cast metal and the finishes include brushed nickel, which matches the current trend for brushed metal switch and socket plates.

No tools are required once the hole is cut in the ceiling. The loop in / loop out connections and push-in terminal blocks mean that Fireguard LED7 is quick and easy to install. Adjustable ceiling clips ensure that it can easily be fitted into different ceiling thicknesses. The added reassurance of the 75,000 hours lamp life and 10 year warranty makes Fireguard LED7 a fit-and-forget product.

Fireguard LED7 is available in both cool and warm white colour temperatures so you can choose the best colour for any application. The cool white version has an output of 450 lumens and an efficacy of 55-60 lumens/circuit Watt. The high performance and colour temperature options makes Fireguard LED7 ideal for both residential and commercial applications, including hotels, restaurants and retail outlets. It is also IP65 rated as standard and therefore suitable for installation in bathrooms and shower rooms.
