Next has placed an order for more than 110,000 LED luminaires in what is believed to be the UK’s biggest retrofit LED deal.
Projection Lighting has secured the lion’s share of the order in a deal worth over £4 million to supply 90,000 AlphaLED fittings using Xicato LED modules, which will replace all the 12V dichroic lamps in Next’s UK properties.
The first of three deliveries over six months will be in September.
The fashion retailer set out its own detailed specification for luminaire submissions and held a weighted e-auction. Jeff Stephens, director at Projection, said it was ‘more due diligence than I have ever seen’. He added that it was also the most informed specification he had seen: ‘This is one client that knew what they were buying.’
Projection carried out trials at six stores with 3,000 fittings, which cut air conditioning costs by 34 per cent.
The new luminaires will replace all Next’s 35W IRC dichroic lamps.
