Tony Cable, senior marketing and events engineer for NICEIC, puts ESPs CanCam VR surveillance system to the test

24th November 2015

“An increasing number of thefts of tools from vans are being reported across the UK, resulting in police forces issuing warnings to van owners and offering advice on safety measures.  ESP’s new CanCam VR could be the answer to providing contractors and with the means to protect their work vans and the valuable tools stored there from theft.

CanCam VR is a relatively low cost, simple to install solution.  The standard CanCam is housed within a steel, vandal-resistant casing to provide added protection and security and ultimately to prevent theft of the system or the removal of the SD storage card.  The metal casing which retains the CanCam is locked in place using security screws which are operated using the special tool that is supplied with the product.

CanCam is a battery operated, high resolution surveillance camera with integral PIR detector, SD card recording and black infra red illumination.  It is ideally suited for semi covert, instant deployment security operations and is designed for external or internal use.  It will detect movement and instantly record high quality images with time and date stamping, in all conditions day and night.

Among the many user settings the image capture type and resolution is selectable - either video with audio up to HD720P or stills up to 8MP recording directly to the 4GB SD card supplied.  When the card is full, there is an over write option.  Alternatively it is possible to use higher capacity cards up to 32GB.  Recordings are taken from the removable SD card using windows media player for simple playback and transfer.  Recorded footage can also be viewed directly via a PC or TV.

The service life of the CanCam’s battery pack varies according to the resolution and image mode.  However, a plug-in power supply is included for more permanent use.  The camera has a high quality 6mm lens to match the detection angle of the PIR, is designed for pole or wall mounting and has an IP55 weatherproof rating.

Applications for the new CanCam VR are many and varied.  As well as its suitability for mounting in the rear of work vans, it is ideal for protecting construction site cabins, portable buildings and roadside containers used for highway maintenance.”
