Xpelair keep things quiet at Halliford School

16th April 2013

Xpelair Ventilation Solutions’ Customvent division has been specified by Omega Building Services to provide a bespoke high efficiency ventilation system at Halliford School, Shepperton.

Part of an ongoing refurbishment project, the system needed to meet and exceed stringent acoustic regulations, which were imposed during the planning stages, due to the proximity of the school to local housing.

The required solution also had to improve the energy efficiency and sustainability credentials of the school, whilst ensuring that staff, pupils and visitors have access to clean, fresh and healthy air.

Omega Building Services installed a number of Xpelair’s market leading Xcell 1200 high efficiency heat recovery units, along with XSRA single speed and XTRA twin speed fans with controls.

The range incorporates a number of technologies aimed at delivering optimal indoor air quality with minimal energy consumption, including a high efficiency aluminium counterflow heat exchanger, ultra efficient EC motors with backward curved impellers and integrated controls.

Roger Moore, Project Director for Omega Building Services Ltd, commented: “The Xcell units will help to improve the energy efficiency of the school and reduce energy bills by utilising heat cells capable of recovering up to 92% of the heat from extracted polluted air and transferring it to incoming fresh air.”

The acoustic properties of the system was also one of the primary concerns of the project, with the units needing to perform within certain noise parameters specified during the planning stages.

Roger continues: “Stringent noise control due to the position of the school was also an important aspect of the specification process. The chosen units needed to achieve 41 dBA and Xpelair’s Xcell were able to accomplish this and more, making them the ideal product for the job due to their superior acoustics rates.”

Steve Mongan, Head of Marketing at Xpelair, added: “The Xcell units are part of a new range of MVHR solutions developed by Xpelair that are able to offer superior efficiency, whilst delivering unparalleled ventilation within schools and other high volume non-residential applications.”
