Hager Helps zoo refurbishment made famous by Hollywood

19th September 2012

Hager is donating a circuit protection solution for Dartmoor Zoo, which has been made famous by the Hollywood film “We bought a zoo” starring Matt Damon and Scarlett Johansson.

The zoo, formerly known as Dartmoor Wildlife Park, was purchased by the Mee family and following major refurbishment work, was reopened in July 2007 as Dartmoor Zoological Park.  The story of this struggle has been featured in a book, a BBC documentary and the film.

Hager’s donation will help the organisation refurbish its buildings in order to meet the ISO 14001 standard.

Tim Steward, maintenance officer for Dartmoor Zoo, said, “We have been operating with second-hand products for years and now we really want to improve on the electrical installations in our building and begin a complete overhaul on all of our out-of-date technologies. Hager’s help in doing this is invaluable. Being provided with quality electrical products will allow us to improve our operation and help reach our goal of meeting the ISO 14001 standard.”

The company’s distribution boards will replace two ancient consumer units, and will include RCBO protection for individual circuits and surge protection.   Before this installation the zoo’s circuits were all protected by a single RCD so if it tripped the entire building’s electricity would be cut off.
