Havells launches controls unit

25th July 2012

Havells-Sylvania is seeking to strengthen its foothold in the controls market, with a new dedicated business unit.

The company will offer a complete range of occupancy and absence detectors to sit alongside its range of professional and architectural luminaires.

The unit will be headed up by Sam Woodward, who joined Havells-Sylvania from Mode Lighting in January 2011.

Woodward said: ‘Havells is a massive force in the industry. It wants to be a one stop stop – one supplier to do all.

‘Our extensive knowledge of the lighting eco-system, from lamps to luminaires, and now controls as well, means we are well placed to understand the savings that lighting controls can bring to unoccupied spaces. Our microwave and PIR occupancy and light sensors reduce lighting-related energy costs by up to 60 per cent and cut carbon emissions which will help companies comply with the building regulations and the growing burden of legislation.’

Woodward said he ‘lives and breathes’ lighting controls and is very excited about the new unit. Before joining the world of lighting, he worked in special effects, ‘blowing things up on film sets’.
