Legrand helps create cleaner Polperro with Cablofil

21st April 2013

Cablofil steel wire tray from cable management specialist, Legrand*, has been used to complete the electrical installation at a new £5 million effluent screening plant in the picturesque Cornish fishing village of Polperro.

The scheme was the final project in South West Water’s £2bn “Clean Sweep” programme around the Devon and Cornwall peninsula which has removed 250 crude outfalls and transformed the quality of the region’s bathing waters. Housed in a reinforced concrete structure adjoining the existing effluent treatment works, the plant has been designed to ensure that effluent from Polperro receives a high level of treatment before being discharged 375 metres out at sea.

Mechanical and electrical contractor, Nomenca, specified Legrand’s Cablofil galvanised steel wire tray for the cable management to accommodate the complexity of cable routing required due to the restricted space and numerous concrete posts, beams and pillars within the plant. The Cablofil system is currently the only WIMES- approved (Water Industry Mechanical and Electrical Specification) steel wire cable management system in the UK and is also proven to withstand salt water environments – an essential requirement given the site’s exposed coastal location.

Comments Matt Crunden, marketing manager of Legrand’s cable management business, “The water industry has specialist requirements when it comes to cable management because of the corrosive nature of the environment and, in coastal locations like Polperro, a corrosion-resistant solution that is also robust, lightweight and easy to install is vital. Thanks to our WIMES-approved Cablofil system this has become a growth market for us and we will continue to work with water companies to help them upgrade their infrastructure.”
